How to Use Data Filtering Settings#
The Filter Data tab acts as the gatekeeper for your dynamic notifications. While the Data Source tab pulls in all your live data (like every single purchase or form submission), the Filter Data tab allows you to set specific rules about exactly which of those events are allowed to be displayed on your website. This ensures you maintain complete control over your social proof and prevent irrelevant or sensitive data from popping up for your visitors.1.
Navigate to the Filter Data Tab: Open your nudge configuration and click on the Filter Data tab at the top of the menu.
2.
Enable Data Filtering: Toggle the switch to ON (it will turn purple). If this is turned off, all data from your connected source will be displayed.
Field: Select the data point you want to evaluate (e.g., Email, Product Name, Price, Location).
Condition: Choose how you want to evaluate it (e.g., Contains, Equals, Does not contain, Greater than).
Value: Type in the specific text or number you are looking for (e.g., "@tracenudges.com" or "50").
Action: Decide what TraceNudges should do if the condition is met. Choose Hide to prevent the notification from showing, or Show to strictly allow it.
4.
Click Add: Press the purple Add button to lock in your rule.
5.
Manage Active Filters: Your saved rules will appear in the "Active Filters" list below. You can delete a rule at any time by clicking the red 'X' next to it.
Common Use Cases#
Data filtering is incredibly versatile. Here are the most common scenarios where you will need it:1. Hiding Internal Team Testing#
When you or your team test the checkout process or sign up for forms, you don't want those test emails showing up as "recent buyers" to live website visitors. The Rule: Email > Contains > @yourcompany.com > Hide.
(This is exactly what is being demonstrated in the screenshot above!)
2. Filtering Out Free or Low-Value Orders#
If you only want to highlight high-value sales to build prestige, you can filter out the freebies. The Rule: Price > Less than > 10 > Hide. (This hides any purchases under $10).
If you are running a campaign solely for "Winter Jackets" and want your Recent Sales nudge to only show when someone buys a jacket (ignoring t-shirt sales). The Rule: Product Name > Contains > Jacket > Show.
4. Hiding Sensitive Locations#
Sometimes you might want to exclude certain locations for privacy or geographical campaign reasons. The Rule: Country > Equals > Testland > Hide.
💡 Pro Tip for Filtering#
Keep it simple! Be careful not to create too many conflicting "Show" and "Hide" rules, as they can sometimes cancel each other out and result in no notifications displaying at all. Start with one main rule (like hiding your internal company emails) and test your live website to ensure it works properly before adding more complex conditions.Modified at 2026-02-17 17:19:30
