Timer & urgency

How to Enable Timer Nudge in TraceNudges#

The Timer notification creates a sense of urgency by displaying a countdown clock for limited-time offers, flash sales, or special events. This effectively motivates visitors to take immediate action before time runs out.

Step 1: Create a New Timer Notification#

1.
Log in to your TraceNudges Dashboard.
2.
Go to the Timers & Urgency tab under the Nudges Library.
3.
Locate the Timer card and click + Add.

Step 2: Select a Design Template#

Choose a design style that fits your campaign. You can typically choose between:
Top Bars: A full-width bar that sits at the top or bottom of your site (great for site-wide sales).
Floating Boxes: A smaller widget that appears in the corner.
Minimal Bars: A sleek, less intrusive countdown.
Click Continue when you are ready.

Step 3: Customize the Notification Layout#

Edit the notification content based on the selected layout. If no customization is done, the default layout (showing a message like "Don't miss the limited-time deals!" with a countdown clock and a "Shop Now" button) will be applied automatically.

Step 4: Add Website URL#

1.
Enter a Nudge Name (e.g., "Black Friday Sale" or "Flash Sale Timer") for your internal reference.
2.
Enter the Target Websites URL where you want the notification to appear. You can add:
A full website URL
A subdomain
Multiple website URLs to run the campaign across all your sites

Step 5: Save and Customize#

Click Create & Configure to save your notification. This opens the advanced customization settings.

Design & Content Customization#

You can modify the notification text and format anytime by navigating to: Configuration → Design → Text Editor.
Here, you can:
Edit Message: Change the urgency text (e.g., "Offer ends in..." or "Sale expires soon!").
Call to Action: specific the button text (e.g., "Grab the Deal" or "Shop Now").
Appearance: Adjust background colors (often red or black for urgency), font sizes, and the countdown digit style.

Timer Settings#

This is the most important part of this nudge. You can typically configure:
Fixed Date Timer: Counts down to a specific calendar date and time (e.g., Midnight on New Year's Eve).
Evergreen/Recurring Timer: Starts a fresh countdown for each individual visitor (e.g., "You have 15 minutes to complete your purchase").

Click Action Settings#

You can define what happens when a visitor clicks the notification or the button:
Redirect them to the specific sale page or product collection.
Open a coupon or discount code URL.
Disable the click action if not required.

Notification Controls#

Additional options include:
Show or hide the Close (X) icon (allowing users to dismiss the bar).
Control whether the timer stays at the top of the page (sticky) or scrolls with the user.

Display Rules#

Use the Display tab to control exactly where the notifications appear.
For Top Bars, you usually want them to appear on All Pages so the urgency follows the user.
For Floating Boxes, you might restrict them to specific product pages.

Step 6: Finish Setup#

After completing all of your customizations, click Finish to complete the setup process.

Step 7: Activate Timer Notification#

Click Yes, Turn It ON. Your Timer notification will now start counting down on your website.
