Understanding Dismissal Settings in TraceNudges#
The Dismissal tab allows you to control the behavior of notifications when a visitor chooses to close them. These settings are essential for balancing powerful social proof with a respectful, user-friendly browsing experience.Key Configuration Options#
1. Auto-Pause Settings#
This feature allows you to respect a visitor's choice by temporarily stopping all notifications if they actively dismiss one.Auto-Pause on Dismissal: When this checkbox is enabled, the system will stop showing all nudges to a visitor for a specific period after they click the close icon.
Pause Duration: Use the dropdown menu to define how long the "silence" should last (e.g., 1 day, as shown in the image).
Why it matters: This prevents your social proof from becoming annoying. If a user is not interested and closes a popup, pausing the system ensures they can browse in peace for the remainder of their session.
This dictates whether visitors have the manual option to hide a notification.Display Close Button: Toggle this checkbox to show or hide the "X" icon on your nudges.
Enabled: Provides the best user experience by giving visitors control.
Disabled: Useful for critical announcements or very short-duration nudges that you want to ensure are seen.
Why Use Dismissal Controls?#
1. Improving Brand Perception#
Forcing popups on users who have already signaled they aren't interested can lead to a negative brand image. Auto-Pause signals that you value the visitor's focus.2. Reducing Site Abandonment#
If notifications are perceived as "unblockable" or persistent despite dismissal, visitors may leave your site entirely. Providing a Close Button reduces this friction.3. Smart Filtering#
By setting a Pause Duration of 24 hours or more, you ensure that only new or highly interested visitors are seeing your social proof, while returning users who have already dismissed it can navigate your site uninterrupted.
💡 Pro Tip#
For most websites, it is highly recommended to Display Close Button and set an Auto-Pause duration of at least 1 day. This ensures your site feels professional and user-centric while still delivering your marketing message to those who are receptive.Modified at 2026-02-17 17:34:05
