How to Use the Targeting Website List (Display Rules)#
The Targeting Website List is a powerful setting located under the Display Rules tab in your TraceNudges configuration. This feature allows you to strictly control exactly which domains or subdomains are permitted to display your specific nudge.By default, you might want a notification to show everywhere, but this setting gives you granular control when managing multiple sites or specific campaigns.
How to Use the Targeting Website List#
1.
Navigate to Display Rules: While editing or creating a nudge, click on the Display Rules tab at the top of the configuration menu.
2.
Locate the Setting: Scroll down to the Display Settings section and find the Targeting Website List.
3.
Add a Website: * Click inside the input field (where it says https://example.com).
Type or paste the URL of the website or subdomain where you want this specific notification to appear.
4.
Manage Your List: * Once added, the domain will appear in the list below the input field (as seen with tracenudges.com in the image above).
To remove a website from targeting, simply click the red 'X' next to the domain name. The nudge will instantly stop displaying on that specific site.
Common Use Cases#
Why would you need to restrict a nudge to a specific website list? Here are the most common scenarios:1. Managing Multiple Brands Under One Account#
If your agency or business manages several different websites (e.g., brand-A.com and brand-B.com) under a single TraceNudges account, you don't want Brand A's recent sales showing up on Brand B's website. You can use the Targeting Website List to ensure the nudge only fires on brand-A.com.2. Separating Main Websites from Subdomains#
You might have a marketing website (www.yoursite.com) and a separate web application or checkout portal (app.yoursite.com or checkout.yoursite.com).Use Case: You can create an "Announcement" nudge about a new app feature and target it only to app.yoursite.com so you don't bother new marketing visitors with app-specific updates.
3. Dedicated Landing Pages for Ad Campaigns#
If you are running paid ads to a specific landing page URL (e.g., a standalone ClickFunnels or Unbounce page), you can create highly specific, aggressive urgency nudges (like a Countdown Timer) and target them only to that specific landing page URL, keeping your main homepage clean.4. Testing Environments (Staging vs. Production)#
Before pushing a new notification live to your thousands of visitors, you can add your staging or testing URL (e.g., staging.yoursite.com) to the Targeting Website List. Once you have verified the nudge looks perfect, you can swap the staging URL out for your live production URL.
💡 Pro Tip for URLs#
When entering your website, it is generally best practice to input the root domain (e.g., yourdomain.com) to ensure the nudge works across all standard pages of that site. Only use subdomains (like blog.yourdomain.com) if you strictly want to isolate the notification to that specific subdomain.Modified at 2026-02-17 17:08:15
